Christmas Lights in Ipswich

Christmas Lights in Ipswich

Thursday the 16th of December
Ipswich Cornhill - 6:00 pm - 2 hours
Come and photograph Ipswich by night with all its Christmas Lights and decorations. There is a performance by "the Incredible Light Up Drummers" at 18:30 which sounds fun so we can also watch this. The town should be busy as well with Christmas shoppers so there is an opportunity to show the atmosphere and excitement within the town. We will photograph the Cornhill and Buttermarket and Christmas Tree. Photography by night will include opportunities for you to experiment with your ISO and exposure settings and to set appropriate white balance for the different light sources and a light weight tripod may may useful for slower shutter speeds and wide aperture shots that can help to create 'bokeh!' From 8pm for anyone who fancies a drink I suggest a short walk to the 'Greyhound'

ABOUT IPSWICH
PHOTOGRAPHY
GROUP
Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.

Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations around Ipswich.

New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month. And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Ipswich Photography Facebook Group here to share your photos after the session.

Our classes and photography sessions are limited to a max of 5 students - due to current COVID restrictions

We ask that everyone attending a meetup follows social distancing guidelines:

Stay home if you're sick.
Keep 2 metres away from others.
Don't make unnecessary physical contact with others. Avoid physical greetings, such as handshakes, hugs and kisses.
Wash your hands regularly with alcohol-based sanitiser.
Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Use a flexed elbow or a tissue.

Christchurch Park Ipswich with Jackie Cooper, 17th April. This lesson was carried out in a very relaxed and friendly way and, being a small group meant everybody got all the help and advice they needed. I needed help with composition and I came away from the lesson feeling that I had now got a much better understanding. I also found out a bit about Histograms, which is something I hadn't really bothered with before. All in all, a very enjoyable and informative 2 hours. Many thanks Jackie, and it was a pleasure meeting you.

INSTRUCTORS
Jonathan Prosser
I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work as an instructor for the Ipswich Photography Group. I have had an interest in photography all my life and have embraced the advances in digital and its creative possibilities. Over a number of years now I have been building a portfolio in Landscape, Nature and Architecture while making plans to move my enthusiasm to a professional standard. I have recently gained a Diploma in Professional Photography and I have worked within the property sector while some of my pictures have been published in local print. I was born and I have lived in Suffolk all my life and I know of many beautiful places on our doorstep. I will be happy to share and explore these places with you in the future, there are so many great opportunities, not just in summer but throughout the year. From photographing birds migrating to charming villages and from walking through Constable Country and along the Suffolk Coastline from the River Stour and North to the River Alde. There are so many skills to learn both technical and creative. I hope you will enjoy my challenges, learn new things and improve your skills while most of all enjoying yourself.
