Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

My wife and I regularly go for walks along the River Deben at Woodbridge, often ending up at the Woodbridge Tidemill. Having stopped for a cup of coffee we walked around to the Tidemill when I noticed the two sea scout boats moored at low tide. Recently I have been taking more photos in monotone to improve my photography skills and I thought that the view of the boats moored at low tide were worth a shot. The Great Reno Balloon Race was this weekend. About a dozen balloon are up and aglow before dawn. This beautiful one was my favorite. Most shooting were using auto white balance, cloudy, or 5600K to keep the yellow cast from the flame. I prefer a white balance which retains the true colors of the balloons, especially for this balloon.

This shot was taken on my first day into this trip. My wife and I decided to spend Labor Day weekend in the mountains which was wonderful but also very busy which isn't the best for wildlife photography. However, I did come away with some good shots from my outing (mostly landscape) and this is by far one of my favorite. I love how the light is striking the deer's face while he is mostly shrouded in shadow. I took this with a Nikon 200-500mm @ 500, 1/160s, ISO 100 and f6.3. I shot this across th
