I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work as an instructor for the Ipswich Photography Group. I have had an interest in photography all my life and have embraced the advances in digital and its creative possibilities. Over a number of years now I have been building a portfolio in Landscape, Nature and Architecture while making plans to move my enthusiasm to a professional standard. I have recently gained a Diploma in Professional Photography and I have worked within the property sector while some of my pictures have been published in local print.
I was born and I have lived in Suffolk all my life and I know of many beautiful places on our doorstep. I will be happy to share and explore these places with you in the future, there are so many great opportunities, not just in summer but throughout the year. From photographing birds migrating to charming villages and from walking through Constable Country and along the Suffolk Coastline from the River Stour and North to the River Alde.
There are so many skills to learn both technical and creative. I hope you will enjoy my challenges, learn new things and improve your skills while most of all enjoying yourself.

Venue: Felixstowe Sea Front Gardens
Historical features, structures and a colourful garden based with a Victorian setting. The top of the cliff offers a great viewing point to the North Sea, the Pier and Port of Felixstowe behind.
Stay around the gardens, exploring its features and viewing points allowing and get to grips with aperture settings.
Enjoy a stroll onto the beach and along the promenade to the Pier, trying to capture a Seagull in flight with your fast shutter speed settings or freeze the water as it breaks along the beach.
There is a great choice of compositional elements from the beach views to the passing of ships.
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture
nature in a visually interesting way. We’ll be looking at composition, focus and
colour. We live in such a beautiful part of the country and the River Orwell has a wonderful selection of wading birds. Through out the seasons greenshank, redshank, dunlin, short-eared owl and pipits have been seen. "
The saltmarsh contains plants including Sea Lavender and Sea Purslane.
So you could try to capture the colours of saltmarsh in micro, if you have a macro or telephoto lens. Or capture landscape in wide-angle, the passing weather and the changing tide.
Sea birds may also be moving between locations up and down the river depending on the state of the tide or their feeding habits. I expect we will reach the Suffolk Yacht Harbour Marina before returning to go back to the pub where there are fantastic river views down to Felixstowe.
This Landscape Photography will feature a stroll along the River Deben including the famous and still operational 'Tidemill'. Boating activities are seen along the river aswell as a number of interesting houseboats. A great destination to practice the main themes of our Landscape lessons while looking for focal points, with suitable camera, aperture and iso settings. Another theme will be caturing movement, for example the water and tide as it changes. I am sure at the end of the seesion you will have found many new and original compositions. Of course we will have plenty of opportunity to share photos, stop and enjoy the scenery between challenges. The Tea Hut takeaway is also conveniently located. The river heads down river and bends around an into Martlesham Creek for peaceful nature shots, or in the other direction passed the boat yards to Melton so there are differnt options to take.
